water for irrigation and drainage. Axial flow pumps are also used as transfer pumps and for sailing ballast
In power plants they are used for pumping water from a reservoir, river, lake or sea for cooling. In the
chemical industry, they are used for the circulation of large masses of liquid, such as in evaporators and
crystallizers. In sewage treatment, an axial flow pump is often used for internal mixed liquor recirculation.

Design Features:
These type of suspended shaft vertical pump is a single - stage, propeller type machine. In axial flow
pumps, the impeller pushes the liquid in a direction parallel to the pump shaft. Axial flow pumps are
sometimes called propeller pumps because they operate essentially the same as the propeller of a boat.
The main advantage of an axial flow pump is a relatively high discharge at a relatively low head.
Suction Bell: Provides a smooth waterway entrance to the impeller and has integral splitters to reduce inlet swirl and entrance losses.
